Welcome to Mothers Monday!

This week, we’re thrilled to share the story of Laura, a single mom to two teenage children, Sophie (16) and Max (13). Laura has been navigating single motherhood for the past five years with resilience, humor, and an unwavering love for her kids.

We sat down with Laura for an interview to learn more about her journey, her dreams, and her advice for others.

The Interview

Q: What has been the most rewarding part of single motherhood?
Laura: „It’s definitely the bond I’ve built with Sophie and Max. We’re like a little team. They’re my biggest supporters, and I’m theirs. Watching them grow into their own people—with their unique personalities and passions—is the most rewarding thing I’ve ever experienced.“

Q: And the most challenging?
Laura: „Honestly, it’s the loneliness sometimes. Being the sole decision-maker can feel heavy. There are nights I wish I had someone to share the responsibility with or even just to talk to about my day. Also, managing two very different teenagers—a 16-year-old navigating big life decisions and a 13-year-old figuring out who he is—can be a balancing act.“

Q: If you could go back five years, what advice would you give yourself?
Laura: „I’d tell myself to stop being so hard on me. It’s okay not to have it all together. I’d also remind myself to reach out for help sooner. It’s amazing how many people want to support you if you let them.“

Q: Where do you see yourself in 10 years?
Laura: „In 10 years, Sophie will be 26, probably figuring out her career and life goals, and Max will be 23, maybe in college or starting his own path. I hope both of them will feel happy and confident in whatever they’re doing. As for me, I’d love to be in a place where I feel fulfilled outside of motherhood—whether that’s in my career, through travel, or maybe even finding love again. But no matter what, I’ll always be there for my kids.“

Q: What is your biggest wish for your children?
Laura: „I want them to know they’re capable of anything. I hope they grow up to be kind, strong, and unafraid to chase their dreams. And I want them to always feel loved and supported, no matter what.“

Q: What does self-care look like for you?
Laura: „It’s simple things—reading a good book, going for a walk, or enjoying a quiet cup of coffee before the chaos starts. I’ve learned that even small moments can make a big difference.“

Q: If you could share one piece of advice with other single moms, what would it be?
Laura: „Give yourself grace. You’re doing the best you can, and that’s enough. Also, find your village—whether it’s friends, family, or other moms. You don’t have to do this alone.“

Laura’s Dreams for the Future

Laura dreams of traveling more once Sophie and Max are older. “I want to see the world—places like Italy, Japan, and maybe even backpacking in South America. It’s something I’ve always wanted to do but put on hold for motherhood.”

She also hopes to explore a career in mentoring or coaching. “I’d love to support other women, especially single moms, in finding their strength and building the life they want.”

Next week on Mothers Monday, we’ll meet a stay-at-home mom rediscovering herself through a passion project. Stay tuned!
