Welcome to Mothers Monday!

This week, we’re sharing the inspiring story of Rachel, a stay-at-home mom to three kids—Ella (8), Jake (5), and Noah (3)—who rediscovered herself through her passion for baking. What began as a hobby has now blossomed into a small home business, proving that it’s never too late to chase your dreams, even amidst the chaos of motherhood.

A Mom Who Lost Herself—And Found Her Way Back

For years, Rachel devoted herself entirely to her family, setting aside her own interests and ambitions. “I thought being a good mom meant putting myself last,” she explains. “But somewhere along the way, I started to feel invisible—even to myself.”

Her journey toward rediscovery started almost accidentally. After baking an elaborate cake for Ella’s birthday, her friends and family couldn’t stop raving about her skills. „It was the first time in years I felt like I was truly good at something outside of being a mom,“ Rachel recalls. Encouraged by her loved ones, she started experimenting with more designs and eventually took on her first paid order—a simple birthday cake for a neighbor.

“I was terrified!” she laughs. “What if they didn’t like it? What if I couldn’t juggle it with the kids? But delivering that cake gave me a sense of accomplishment I hadn’t felt in years.”

The Challenges of Pursuing a Passion as a Mom

Balancing her business with three young kids has been far from easy. Rachel works from her tiny home kitchen, often late at night or during nap times. “There have been times I’m frosting a cake while Jake is having a meltdown or Noah is clinging to my leg,” she says. „It’s not always pretty, but I’ve learned to adapt.“

One of the biggest challenges has been setting boundaries. “At first, I felt guilty whenever I worked. I thought I was taking something away from my kids. But I realized that it’s okay—important, even—to carve out time for myself. Now, I explain to them what I’m doing and why it matters, and they’ve started cheering me on!”

Time management is another constant struggle. Between school pickups, meal preps, and bedtime routines, Rachel admits she often feels stretched thin. „There are days when I’m exhausted and wonder if it’s all worth it. But then I see the joy on a client’s face when they pick up their cake, and I’m reminded why I started.“

What Baking Has Given Her

For Rachel, her passion project is about much more than cakes. “It’s not just a business; it’s a way for me to feel like myself again. When I’m decorating a cake, I’m in my own world. It’s therapeutic—it’s my version of self-care.”

She also loves that her kids are growing up watching her chase her dreams. “I want them to know that it’s okay to prioritize yourself sometimes. I hope they see me working hard and realize that they can do the same, whatever their passions might be.”

The emotional rewards have been just as powerful as the financial ones. “For years, I questioned whether I was capable of doing anything beyond raising my kids. Now, every time I finish a cake, it feels like proof that I am.”

Rachel’s Advice for Moms with Big Dreams

Rachel’s message to other moms is simple: “Start small and don’t be afraid to fail. Whether it’s a side hustle, a hobby, or a creative outlet, do something that’s just for you. And don’t feel guilty—your kids benefit from seeing you happy and fulfilled.”

She also stresses the importance of asking for help. “I couldn’t do this without my partner stepping up or my mom babysitting when I need extra time. It’s not weakness—it’s teamwork.”

Looking to the Future

Rachel’s goal is to expand her business slowly as her kids grow. “For now, I’m focusing on what I can handle without overwhelming myself or my family. But one day, I’d love to have a proper bakery—somewhere my kids can help out and feel proud of what we’ve built together.”

Her story is a reminder that it’s never too late to rediscover yourself, and that motherhood doesn’t mean losing who you are—it can be the foundation for something new and beautiful.

Next week on Mothers Monday, we’ll meet a working mom redefining success while balancing her career and family life. Stay tuned!
