Welcome to Mothers Monday!
This week, we’re diving into the inspiring story of Emma, who became a first-time mom at the age of 40. Her journey is one of perseverance, self-discovery, and boundless love. We had the chance to sit down with Emma for an interview about her experiences, challenges, and hopes for the future.
The Interview
Q: What made you decide to become a mother later in life?
Emma: „Honestly, it wasn’t really a decision at first. I was so focused on my career in finance during my 30s that time just slipped by. When I met my partner at 38, we both felt ready to start this chapter together. It wasn’t an easy process, but we were determined.“
Q: What were the biggest challenges of becoming a mom at 40?
Emma: „The hardest part was the uncertainty. We faced some struggles with fertility, and there were moments where I wasn’t sure if it would happen for us. Physically, pregnancy at 40 was more tiring than I expected, and now, chasing after a toddler feels like a workout! But the emotional challenges were tougher—managing doubts, dealing with judgment from others, and balancing everything.“
Q: What has been the most rewarding part of motherhood for you?
Emma: „The bond I have with my son, Leo. It’s incredible. I also think I bring a lot more patience and perspective to parenting now than I might have in my younger years. I’m more present and able to truly enjoy the little moments—his giggles, his first words, the way he explores the world with so much curiosity.“
Q: Where do you see yourself in 10 years?
Emma: „In 10 years, Leo will be in his early teens, and I hope I’ll still be as hands-on and involved as I am now. Personally, I’d love to be in a space where I’m mentoring younger women or moms who are balancing careers and family life. Maybe we’ll even have taken some family trips to places like Italy or Japan—traveling together is a big dream of mine.“
Q: What is your biggest wish for Leo?
Emma: „I just want him to grow up kind, confident, and happy. I hope he learns to pursue his passions and never feels like he has to follow someone else’s timeline or expectations. And, of course, I hope he always knows how loved he is.“
Q: If you could give advice to women considering motherhood later in life, what would it be?
Emma: „Don’t let fear or what other people think hold you back. Yes, there are challenges, but there’s no perfect time to become a mom. Focus on what you can do to prepare—physically, emotionally, and financially—and trust that your love and dedication will make up for any doubts you have.“
Emma’s Reflection on Late Motherhood
Emma believes that becoming a mom at 40 has given her a unique perspective on life. „I’ve lived through so much and learned to appreciate the little things. I think that’s a gift I can pass on to my son. I want him to see that life doesn’t have to follow a specific script—it’s about finding your own path.“
Inspiration for Moms Everywhere
Emma’s story is a reminder that motherhood comes in many forms and at different times in life. Whether you’re a young mom or stepping into this role later, each journey is special and worth celebrating.
